About Hambourg

Hamburg, the home town of Karl Lagerfeld and Max Ophüls, is Germany’s second-largest city. Its prime spot at the confluence of the Alster, Bille and Elbe rivers makes it the country’s most important port. The official name of the city is Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg (‘Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg’) and its code on vehicle number plates is HH. Sankt Pauli, one of Hamburg’s 105 neighbourhoods, is all about the night life. The city has no fewer than 31 theatres, including Deutsches Schauspielhaus, the biggest in Germany, along with seven music halls, 10 cabarets and 50 museums. In the 19th century, the already quite successful Hamburg steak served aboard the boats travelling between this German port and New York City exploded in popularity across the pond, with the name ‘hamburger’!

Manufacturing

1. Drawing
Through a single stroke, The Line represents panoramas of cities, legendary mountain tops, or even mythical music tracks visually represented by their soundwaves.
2. Cutting
Lines are laser cut from metal sheets, with an extreme accuracy. This step is carried out in France by several partners, including a cooperative company.
3. Gilding
Lines are gilded with 24-carat gold via an electrolysis process ensuring agglomeration of gold on the line.
4. Boxes and silkscreen
Despite significant production volumes, The Line keeps an artisanal manufacturing approach for its packaging, and uses a silkscreen process to guarantee an original and qualitative result.
5. Packing
Final packing of products is then carried out within ESATs (work-based learning centers dedicated to people with disabilities).
