About La Bonne Mère
An iconic symbol of Marseille, La Bonne Mère is the affectionate nickname given to the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, perched on the hill of the same name. Built in the 19th century, it watches over the city and its sailors from its summit, more than 150 meters above sea level.
Its gilded statue of the Virgin and Child, visible throughout the city, serves as a reassuring landmark for the people of Marseille, believers and non-believers alike.
A place of pilgrimage, contemplation, and exceptional views over the Mediterranean, La Bonne Mère embodies protection, faith, and the deep identity of Marseille.
